This Saturday, the GNR identified seven environmental activists who entered the facilities of the Galp refinery in Sines, in the district of Setúbal, a source from that security force told Lusa.
The same source indicated that the seven activists, all men, but whose ages could not be specified, were held by the GNR in the place so that the military proceeded to identify them, for “invasion of property.”
“They are being held. That is to say, there are no arrests”, stressed the source from the Setúbal Territorial Command of the GNR, referring to the fact that the security force maintains a security device next to the Galp complex in Sines.
According to the GNR source, the seven activists invaded the refinery facilities around 8 am. In a statement, the Climáximo collective explained that Action 1.5 activists entered the refinery with the aim of “bringing a fair transition plan to the workers” of this complex.
“Some of the activists were detained by the police, but the protest is still active, with more than a hundred participants in action at different entrances to this refinery,” the collective stressed.
For Climáximo, the Sines refinery must have “a fair transition plan”, since “it is not only necessary but urgent”, and it must be delivered “to those who must lead this transition”, that is, to “those who work in the infrastructure”.
“This is the heart of the action. [deste sábado]in which the activists entered the refinery to hand-deliver a plan for the transformation not only of the infrastructure, but of the entire Sines region”, stressed the environmental group.
According to Climaximo, the activists even delivered the plan “to a large number of workers who came off their shifts.”
“Not preparing now for a transition is preparing the ground for a closure at the convenience of Galp’s millionaire shareholders, as happened in Matosinhos,” he added.
