Trade Union Front suspends Thursday’s strike in Altice due to heat wave

The Altice Trade Union Front suspended this Monday the strike and the concentration of workers that was scheduled for Thursday, in defense of the provisional increases of 50 euros and its Health Plans, due to the intense heat.

The union structures made the decision because they understood that “the intense heat wave was coming (…) to impose limitations on participation in the struggle”, particularly by the elderly.

According to a statement from the Trade Union Front, the decision also took into account “foreseeable damage due to fires caused in the telecommunications network” and the services provided by Altice to the national emergency network SIRESP, local authorities and populations.

In addition, the company administrator scheduled a new meeting with the unions for the 25th.

The member organizations of the Frente Sindical na Altice responsibly decided, in view of the aforementioned limitations, to suspend the fight agenda scheduled for next July 21, with the full guarantee of a new fight agenda soon”, they pointed out. he said in the statement.

However, the unions will mark the date with a symbolic action, going to the company on Thursday to deliver a written claim.

About a month ago, after having held plenary sessions throughout the country, the five unions that make up the Altice Trade Union Front, SINTTAV, SNTCT, STT, FE and SINQUADROS, marked the strike and rally next to the company headquarters, which They were scheduled for Thursday, because the workers do not accept the changes in their Health Plans and do not give up the provisional increases.

According to the unions, the 15 euros that were applied in January”not enough to deal with inflationand the 50 euros that are claimed with effect from July “only cover the effects of inflation in relation to the lowest salary of the company, which is 760 euros.”

The Syndicalist Front claims that the provisional increase of July 1 must also include the lowest salary increase in the company to 835 euros.

Regarding the Health Plans, the objective is “to stop the proposals for changes for the worse in the Altice Health Plans” and “to demand the extension of the Classic Plan to all the workers of the Altice Group, as a way of keeping it sustainable”.

According to the Trade Union Front, in February of this year, the Altice government “announced to the TSOs a brutal and violent attack on what remained of the Health System negotiated in 1994 after the constitution of the PT.”

The Union Front recalled, in a press release, that Altice’s health system “is supportive and shared by the beneficiaries, who pay a fee of 1.8% of their monthly income” and the company’s management “intends to increase to 2.1% is the proportion of beneficiaries who are not active and who, due to their age, are the ones who most need medical attention.
