The Funchal City Council approved this Thursday the allocation of a “food support” to the Volunteer Firefighters Association of Madeira and the acquisition of three vehicles for the Department of Environment and Health, said the mayor.
Pedro Calado clarified that support for the firefighters association is “equivalent to food allowance” and is in force during the summer period, when the risk of fires increases.
The social democratic mayor, elected by the Funchal Semper à Frente coalition (PSD/CDS-PP), said, on the other hand, that the three vehicles of the Department of Environment and Health they are intended for cleaning streets and tunnels and represent an investment of 500 thousand euros.
These measures were approved at the meeting of the municipal executive, made up of six elements from the PSD/CDS-PP and five from the Confiança coalition (PS/BE/PAN/MPT/PDR), in which a “process of renewal of “Potable water” lines were also approved to control leaks and losses.
“It is an important work worth 1.3 million euros,” said Pedro Calado, who added that five companies have passed the final stage and that the start of the contract is scheduled for November.
At the meeting held on Thursday, it was also approved the allocation of tax benefits to three entities that are recovering degraded buildings. The mayor also indicated that the City Council, in collaboration with the Associação Protetora dos Pobres, carried out the rehabilitation of a house to accommodate homeless people.
The idea is to get them off the street, put them to sleep in a decent space and put them to work in the Funchal City Hall, with the aim of achieving the social reintegration of these people”, he declared.
