reduced to use of public lighting and turning off the lighting of monumentsand dimming the lights in stores after closing are suggestions from environmental association Zero, which it says contribute to energy resilience and autonomy in Portugal.

The measures, always safeguarding security issues, are part of a list of proposals disclosed in a press release and that Zero considers essential for saving energy in Portugal, and that it must be applied regardless of the situation.

Other ways to save energy, according to the proposals, by adjusting temperatures inside buildings (18/19ºC in winter and 25/26ºC in summer), wear clothing appropriate to the season, and for “active air conditioning”, penalizing, for example, establishments that use air conditioning with doors and windows open to the street.

Another way to save energy is to promote the use of public transport by local authorities and the Government, also making them more attractive. Promotion of teleworking and meetings in digital format also save energythe same goes for slowing down vehicles, says Zero.

In the statement, the association also proposes other more structural measures, how to accelerate building rehabilitation initiativesto make them more thermally comfortable, and promote other measures to improve this thermal comfort and caulking initiatives.

Accelerating the installation of solar hot water solutions and promoting decentralized renewable energy production (families and small companies producing renewable energy) are also, Zero understands, good measures to combat the energy crisis.

These are measures that, he says, “can help Portugal reduce energy use, ensuring not only compliance with the solidarity objective with the countries of the European Union (EU)but also the reduction of the environmental impacts derived from the production and use of energy”.

And they do not do without, according to the association, large-scale information campaigns, with advice and explanations, either on how to make the home more comfortable and save energy, or on how to be an energy producer. Whether because of the importance, also in terms of energy, of reducing food waste or taking shorter showers.
