National Grid: Electricity and home heating costs will rise significantly this winter

According to National Grid, heating and electricity prices are expected to rise in homes in the northeastern United States this winter.

In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, a spokesperson for National Grid said it predicts the average home heating bill this winter will rise by $263 to $943 this winter, up 39 percent from last year, Times Union reported.

Electricity prices are also expected to rise 22 percent, about $116 more than last winter.

“The estimate is based on an average of 600 kilowatt-hours of electricity consumption per month,” the company said in a press release on Wednesday. Said.

The British gas and electricity company, which also serves homes in the northeastern US, has acknowledged pressure from customers due to higher energy prices.

“We understand that higher energy prices will increase the financial burden for our customers, who are struggling with higher costs at grocery stores, gas stations and elsewhere,” said Melanie Littlejohn, CEO of National Grid.

The electricity company said on Tuesday that the rise in home heating prices was a result of wholesale natural gas prices, which reached their highest level since 2006. The National Grid also blamed the increase in gas delivery rate.

For the second year under President Joe Biden, service prices are expected to be higher than last year.
