It was a challenging day in voting on the State Budget proposals for 2023. It was the day dedicated to fiscal measures. And the debate in the morning, in plenary, was promising. It is not that great changes were expected with respect to what was already known in the proposals of the PS and the Government. But even so, there was room for some fiscal victories for the opposition parties, notably in terms of VAT, which was cut on bicycles (Livre) and some food products (PAN), in addition to what was already known to be going down. intended for PS (shellfish and heating products). The fiscal costs of the approved measures were not disclosed.
It allowed, however, to add points to the Government’s discourse that the absolute majority is not absolute power and that it showed openness to dialogue. This has already been translated in the three days of voting in 47 opposition proposals that received the green light from the PS, the shark in this discussion since with an absolute majority it decides what happens and what does not happen.
