The Spanish Government is studying a rise in the minimum wage, currently at 1,000 euros, between 4.6% and 8.2%, in January. But he already admits having reviewed the value in the middle of the year, to assess whether the increase is sufficient taking into account the evolution of inflation.
According to El Mundo and El País, the Spanish Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, has presented this Monday a report prepared by the commission in charge of analyzing the evolution of the minimum wage. This commission recommends an increase of the current 1,000 euros for an interval between €1,046 Y €1,082to 14 months, in 2023. Experts suggest that the amount to be decided be reviewed in the middle of the year based on inflation and the government admits this possibility.
“We anticipate that Can we review the minimum wage after six months?, depending on the evolution of inflation”, said the minister, at a press conference. The official did not commit to a specific increase in the minimum wage. “I don’t lean towards either end of the range and until I sit at the social dialogue table I will not take any position???????? We will actively listen to the social agents”, he said, indicating that the unions are asking for 1,100 euros. “I only ask the partners to fulfill their constitutional mandate and come to the table to work, to have an open mind and to work for the country.” Inflation in Spain is currently around 8.6%.
In addition to the range with minimum and maximum increases, the commission also proposed two intermediate values: 1,054 and 1,066 eurosThe commission’s idea is for the minimum wage to reach 60% of the net average wage in 2023. The minister will now meet with the social agents to negotiate the exact amount of the increase.
In Portugal, the rise in the minimum wage will be 7.8% in January, from 705 euros to 760 euros.
