Union calls partial strike of teachers in the first week of classes

The Independent Union of Teachers and Educators (SIPE) will call a partial strike that must be carried out from January 3 and throughout the first week of classes.

In a note sent to Lusa, SIPE explains that the strike, against some Government proposals for the revision of the hiring and mobility regime, is only for the first class period of each teacher.

“We will never accept direct hiring by schools, direct involvement in group meetings by groups, or placement in internal mobility through the analysis of the competency profile carried out by a board of directors”, stresses the president of the guild, quoted in the Note.

Regarding the characteristics of unemployment, Júlia Azevedo explains that “based on cooperation“, with a reduced cost for the teachers, but impact on the functioning of the schools, since the teachers will be on strike at different times.

In addition to the changes the contracting and mobility regimewhich is currently in the negotiation phase between the Ministry of Education and the union structures, the SIPE also requires the opening of negotiation processes on other issues.

Among the issues that it wants to deal with the guardianship, the union refers to the end of the vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels of the career, the total recovery of the time of service and the mobility regime due to illness.

“The policies of the Government and the Ministry of Education are emptying the education sector in Portugal. The shortage of professors is a consequence of these same policies, which increasingly distance professors from their careers and compromise the entry of new professors, just because it’s not attractive“, says Júlia Azevedo.

This is the second confirmed teacher strike for the month of January, in addition to the indefinite strike called by the All Teachers Union, which starts on December 9 and will last throughout the next month.

Last week eight unions, including SIPE, threatened to call another strike if the Education Ministry does not back down from some of the proposals. to review the contracting and mobility model???????? In this case, it is an 18-day strike by districts, starting on January 10.
