Proposals on areas of deployment of offshore renewables in public hearing

The public hearing of proposals for the delimitation of renewable energy deployment zones at sea (‘offshore’) begins on Monday and will last until mid-March, according to Diário da República.

“The General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services promotes a public hearing, for a period of 30 days, for the formulation of suggestions and collection of contributions of the preliminary proposal of the specialized areas by the working group for planning and commissioning of electro-production centers based on renewable energy sources of oceanic origin or location”, reads the joint order of the Ministry of Economy and Sea, Environment and Action for Climate and Infrastructures.

In a joint statement, released this Saturday, the two ministries announce the start of the hearing as of January 30 and for the following 30 business days, and make it known that it can be consulted on the website of the General Directorate of Resources Natural, Security and Maritime Services.

The working group, created in September, has until May 31 to submit contributions to develop the production of renewable energy at sea, “for the planning and operation of power generation centers from renewable energy sources of natural origin.” or ocean location.

The mission of the group is, according to the September diploma, “to present to the responsible members of the Government, before May 31, 2023, a report with contributions and recommendations” that respond to the objectives set, among which is proposing a set of preferential measures areas to install electric power generation centers at sea, indicating the points of interconnection to the National Electric Power Transmission Network (RNT).

The Government has assumed the ambition of reaching an installed offshore wind capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW) in 2030, which will be awarded by auction.
