The socialist deputy of the regional parliament Carlos Silva defended on Monday the need for “greater regulation” of the tourism sector in the Azores by the regional government, so as not to compromise the quality of the sector.
The parliamentarian said that, “if it is true that tourism has been growing in the region, it is also evident that greater action by the Government of the Azores is necessary in the regulation, control and planning of the sector, under penalty of putting an end to what that has been achieved over the years.”
“We may be endangering the quality of the service provided and disappointing the expectations of those who visit us, but also, and above all, the impact that tourism has on the life of the Azoreans”, declared the deputy at the end of a meeting of the PS/Azores parliamentary group with the company “Azores Easy Rent”, in Ponta Delgada.
