Pordata also detailed that, within these three groups mentioned, “the best paid professions correspond to management or leadership positions”, such as “representatives of the legislative power and executive bodies, senior officials of the Public Administration, directors and managers of companies (they earned, on average, 3,577 euros); directors of administrative and commercial services (3,091 euros); directors of production and specialized services (2,826 euros); and technicians from legal, social, sports and cultural services (2,331 euros)”.

The professions in the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) “are among the best paid, with salaries above 1,850 euros,” says Pordata.

This group includes “information and communication technology (ICT) specialists (2,198 euros)”, in “finance, accounting, administrative organization, public and commercial relations (2,111 euros)”, in “physical sciences, mathematics, engineering (2,019 euros)” and “health professionals (1,869 euros)”.

On the other hand, in terms of the lowest paid professions “they are assistants in preparing meals (761 euros), cleaning worker (791 euros) and personal care worker (818 euros),” he said.

Pordata also analyzed the wage inequality between men and women, concluding that the greatest gap is found “among mid-level technicians in legal, social, sports and cultural services (men earn, on average, more than 2,409 euros)”.

Regarding the highest paid economic sectors, according to Pordata, “they are electricity, gas and water (they earned, on average, 1,672 euros more than the national average) and financial and insurance activities (+1,080 euros)”, while, on the other hand, “the hospitality and agriculture sectors are the worst paid (-380 euros and -283 euros compared to the national average)”.

The organization also pointed out that “the economic sectors that generated the most wealth (VAB – Gross Value Added) in 2020 are also those where the average salary of workers was below the national average.”

Pordata gave the manufacturing industry as an example, which “generates 13.8% of the GVA, with emphasis on the food and textile industry” and “where the average wages are 121 euros and 340 euros lower than the national average”, as well as ” real estate activities and commerce (13.4% and 13.1% of the GVA), public administrations and health (7.4% and 7% of the GVA)”, noting that “in health the difference with respect to the national average is – 145 euro”.
