The TVI management announced that it had resolved the dispute with Judite Sousa, over the journalist’s departure from the channel in 2022, according to a joint statement broadcast on the CNN Portugal antenna. “TVI’s Board of Directors communicates that it has agreed with Judite de Sousa on the terms in which the parties resolve any disturbance that could eventually break out in their relations,” the statement can be read.
The company and the journalist emphasize that they are “in good faith in the conclusion of this cycle”, regretting “any inconvenience, discomfort or involuntary inconvenience that may have arisen during the professional relationship they had”.
The terms of the agreement were not made public by mutual agreement between the parties.affirming said communiqué that it was the “only public expression of the understanding reached”.
Judite Sousa was one of the main names associated with the launch of CNN Portugal when the channel began broadcasting in November 2021. In fact, she was the first face of the station, sharing the presentation of “Jornal da CNN” at 9 p.m. with Júlio Magalhães, alternating weekly.
Relations between the parties worsened in the summer of 2022, when the journalist publicly announced her departure from the station on August 1. At the origin of the dispute would be the lack of conditions and support that the channel offered to Judite de Sousa when she went to Ukraine where she covered the war for a few weeks.
At the time, Judite de Sousa claimed to have terminated the contract with the channel, claiming to have been working with green receipts, no health insurance and no money while in Ukraine. “I have never seen a Ukrainian coin or banknote. To drink water, have coffee, have lunch, I asked the young image reporter to pay my expenses,” the journalist accused in a post on social networks.
The information director of TVI/CNN, Nuno Santos, said at the time that the company found out on Monday “through social networks” and that the termination of the contract had taken it by surprise. “Judite chose the team, we gave her full support throughout this process. (…) We cannot allow lies to be told about what is happening, we are not going to allow it to happen, ”he said.
