PCP proposes 35-hour week for all workers

In statements to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic, the parliamentary leader of the PCP, Paula Santos, recalled that this Wednesday marks May 1, which “will surely be a great day of struggle for workers, in defense of their rights.” , more salary, but also a fight against exploitation, injustice and inequalities“.

“The PCP will advance with four legislative initiatives precisely to reinforce the rights of those who work, legislative initiatives that address issues of working hours, because it is necessary to ensure that conditions exist for effective coordination between professional, personal and family life. ” he stated.

With this objective, The PCP presents an initiative that proposes reducing weekly working hours to 35 hourswhether in the public or private sector, without loss of salary.

In the diploma, the party affirms that 35 hours are already a reality in the public administration, and also in many private sector companies, “but there is still a general establishment of a maximum weekly working day of 35 hours for workers who do not I still have it”.

In parallel with this measure, the PCP is also moving forward with two diplomas that aim to “put an end to the deregulation of the working day”, immediately revoking the adaptability and time bank mechanisms, which, according to the party, aim to “obtain an increase in workday”. time at no charge to the employer.”

“We cannot accept that the daily workday can be 10, 12, 14, 16 hours, in addition to the high work rates., of the exploitation that this means, and that does not allow the articulation between professional and personal life. We consider that all these regimes and mechanisms (…) must be eliminated,” said Paula Santos.

Finally, the party also proposes Strengthen the rights of workers who work shifts or at night.limiting the use of this type of regime to situations that are “technically and socially justified”, in addition to “combating” the desire to “prolong continuous work in a group of companies.”

“We also propose that there should naturally be adequate compensation for workers doing shift work and night work. The hardships, the risk, the wear and tear that it entails demand fair compensation,” said Paula Santos, adding that it is also necessary to define “an early retirement regime, taking into account these high-wear work rhythms.” and risk.”

Paula Santos highlighted that, with this package of measures, the PCP wants to mark “a path and a need” to eliminate “harsh regulations” from the Labor Code and “move towards strengthening workers’ rights,” especially in what refers to work. hours.
