TST workers suspend strike and accept wage increase proposal

Workers at the road passenger transport company Transportes Sul do Tejo (TST) decided on Friday by majority vote in a plenary session to suspend their forms of struggle and accept the company’s proposed wage increase, a union source told Lusa.

The workers had planned a day of strike for this Friday, which would start at 3:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, as well as a plenary session in Laranjeiro.

According to Sara Gligó, from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), the plenary session produced the resolution to “suspend the struggles and inform the company management” that the proposed wage increase was accepted, without prejudice to the continued discussion of working conditions.

Transportes Sul do Tejo, with around 900 employees, operates in Zone 3 of the Lisbon Metropolitan Railway, which covers the municipalities of Almada, Seixal and Sesimbra, in the district of Setúbal.

According to the union leader, the workers accepted the company’s proposal to apply a 5.89% increase in 2024, with a minimum increase of 60 euros, and an increase in the diet up to 7.20 euros.

The workers demanded an increase in the minimum wage to 80 euros and an increase in the food allowance to 9.60 euros.
