China launches satellite to remotely sense Earth

China has successfully launched the Gaofen-5 01A Earth remote sensing satellite, which will be used for environmental monitoring. This was reported by the Xinhua agency.

Together with the spacecraft, the Long March-2D launch vehicle was launched at 02:31 local time from Taiyuan Cosmodrome in northern Shanxi Province. The satellite entered a certain orbit at an altitude of 705 km. The launch was considered successful.

It was noted that the hyperspectral satellite will be used to reduce harmful emissions, monitor climate changes and solve problems related to exploring natural resources.

The spacecraft received a hyperspectral camera and a large thermal imager. The launch of the satellite marked the completion of the construction of the space division of the Chinese Gaofen project, in which a system for observing the Earth’s surface was created.
