What if humans achieve immortality?

People who sought immortality in time never achieved their goal. For example, they are Emperor Qin Shihuang and Emperor Taizong. But maybe it’s real today in the century when science and technology developed?

To become immortal, people will first need to understand what causes a person to die. Numerous scientific studies have shown that telomeres at the ends of chromosomes during the aging process are constantly shortened during cell renewal. And so far there is no way humanity can prevent this process.

Shortening of telomeres is only one of the factors affecting human lifespan. But other factors are yet to be discovered by experts.

Some scientists are even trying to transfer human consciousness to a computer to achieve digital immortality.

But the human brain and human consciousness are very complex things. Experts still do not agree on what consciousness is. However, consciousness is precisely why we are intelligent beings.

But maybe consciousness transfer will work? Today, scientists believe this is still unlikely. We currently know absolutely nothing about consciousness, so we cannot even predict whether it will exist outside the body. Some experts even believe that consciousness, like the body, has its own life and is connected with the body. So if the body dies, the consciousness dies too.

Also, scientists are confident that even if humans manage to achieve immortality, it will only bring misery to humanity. This can be concluded if you observe animals that live much longer than humans.

So, for example, turtles can live an average of 150-200 years. Oysters live even longer. Jellyfish are also long-lived. In general, jellyfish can regenerate almost infinitely after reaching a certain growth stage. But the longer he lives, the simpler his structure becomes and the more fragile life becomes. Therefore, scientists believe that instead of immortality, humans can lose their intelligence and hegemony over life on the planet.
