At the age of 60, Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian woman to receive an Oscar nomination and win for Best Actress for her role as Evelyn Wang in the film “Everywhere at the Same Time” from the directorial duo. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (one of the seven statuettes won). A considerable feat for someone who started his career some four decades ago and who in recent years had been increasingly removed from the mainstream. Following news of the nomination, the actress told The Hollywood Reporter that this distinction went beyond herself. “Right now, and constantly, I have Asians come up to me and say, ‘You can do this, you’re doing it for us.’ I understand clearly. For a long time, they were not recognized or heard.”

Without a doubt, he is living the highest moment of his career. The renowned Malaysian-Chinese actress became internationally known in 1997 as a bond girl in “007 – Tomorrow Never Dies” and for her role as an expert fighter in Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000). But his career had started a long time ago, when he was still in Hong Kong, he had emerged as a leading name in the many Asian action films he had been in, made in that golden age of Chinese cinema, during the 1980s after won the Golden Globe in the category of Best Movie Actress -Comedy or Musical, as well as the eponymous award at the Critics’ Choice and Independent Spirit Awards- is the icing on the cake. And although it is not exactly the relaunch of a career, which she has never stopped, this is perhaps a propitious moment for the actress who is also part of the “Avatar” saga by James Cameron.
