CDS ends with internal tendencies in a congress where it guaranteed not to be “dead”

New bodies —with party senators— and new statutes. Even to end a current that some within the party find uncomfortable. These were the results of the CDS congress this Saturday, in Aveiro, which was scheduled only with the aim of changing the statutes — even so, Nuno Melo took advantage of the moment in which the nearly 700 congressmen met to try to set the political agenda and put some of the best-known names in the party to make political interventions.

The new statutes promoted by the management of Nuno Melo were approved by a overwhelming majority (609 votes in favor, 18 against and 20 abstentions) and, on the contrary, the alternative proposals were also clearly rejected – that of Nuno Correia da Silva, who even presented a motion to direct the CDS in the last congress, obtained 514 votes against and 63 in favor and 70 abstentions, and that of the militant José Augusto Gomes had 594 against, 42 abstentions and 11 in favor.
