PCP congratulates the MPLA, denounces Portuguese interference and criticizes the opposition, which does not “accept the sovereign will” of the Angolans

The PCP congratulated the MPLA for obtaining an absolute majority in the general elections in Angola and warned “interference operations” made from Portugal to destabilize the country.

In a statement, the communists congratulated the party headed by the Angolan president, João Lourenço, and considered that the 51% achieved by the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola expresses the recognition of the population. “of the historical journey and fundamental role” of that political force “in the conquest of independence, the defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity against the aggression of the regime of racial segregation”.

On the same note, the PCP “denounces the interference operations that, from Portugal, seek, once again, to promote the destabilization of Angola”warning of the attempt to “jeopardize the electoral process” by UNITA and other political forces “before their defeat” and “as in previous situations”.

According to the final results released this Monday by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) of Angola, the MPLA won the general elections held a week ago with 51%, while the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) obtained 44%. .

From the point of view of the PCP, the political forces challenging the electoral result “they do not accept the sovereign will, expressed freely and democratically” by the Angolans.

According to the data presented, 44.82% of the 14.4 million voters voted, with 1.67% white votes and 1.15% invalid votes.

The MPLA obtained 3,209,429 votes, or 51.17%, electing 124 deputies, and UNITA obtained 2,756,786 votes, guaranteeing 90 deputies, with 43.95% of the total.

The plenary session of the CNE proclaimed João Lourenço – head of the MPLA list – as President of the Republic of Angola and Esperança da Costa – number two – as vice-president.
