IL wants the Ombudsman to request an inspection of the Portuguese League regulations after suing the journalist

The Liberal Initiative asked the Ombudsman to request a review of the constitutionality of the Portugal League regulations, after a process initiated by the Disciplinary Council against a SportTV journalist, for having asked a question that allegedly “loses control of the game ” between Sporting and Chaves.

In a statement, the Liberals made known the request made this Thursday, stressing that the decision to establish a disciplinary process takes into account a “so-called regulation” in which “journalists are equated with sports agents, and therefore are subject to to the rules”. . applicable to players, coaches, officials and other participants in sporting events, including law enforcement officials.

“This subjectivity of the concept of sports agent, which places journalists and security agents at the mercy of the disciplinary bodies of a sports federation, even violates the principle of separation of powers. And, no less serious, it collides directly with the rights, freedoms and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, from the outset with freedom of expression and of the press”, highlights IL.

Rodrigo Saraiva, parliamentary leader, stresses that “free and independent media are one of the foundations of any liberal democracy.”

“The work of journalists and their prerogative to freely formulate the questions they deem pertinent cannot be pinched by any body without powers for that purpose,” adds the Liberal deputy.

More than the request, IL shows a “red card” to Cláudia Santos, a socialist deputy who chairs the FPF Disciplinary Council, asking for a “serious reflection on the accumulation of functions and the ethical conflict in which she finds herself”. .
