The PS launches from Saturday the Socialist Academy of Local Power, aimed at the training of cadres and the political reflection of the mayors of this party, with a session opened by the deputy general secretary, João Torres.
Also within the framework of this session, which will take place at the Centro da Esquerda, in Lisbon, at 12:00 noon, the book “Meio Século do Poder Local: As Marcas do PS”, by Raul Lopes, António Mendes Baptista and Conceição Matos, edited by Kaleidoscope.
This book will be presented by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, also coordinator of the Mário Soares Forum, and will feature speeches by João Torres, president of the National Association of PS Mayors (ANA-PS), Isilda Gomes, and the national secretary of municipalities, Susana Amador.
As for the Socialist Academy of Local Power, the initiative is promoted in alliance with the ANA-PS and the study office of this party.
As for the program, according to the PS, module 1 of the training will be dedicated to the theme “Constitutional Framework of Local Power” and will have as a guest speaker the former minister and socialist leader Jorge Lacão, who is a constitutionalist.
The PS points out that the Academy, which takes place in person at the Centro da Esquerda, opens the possibility of remote participation, having among its objectives the idea of “provide socialist mayors with an important space for complementary, regular and permanent training”.
“The set of sessions, in this first year of existence, will take place between September 2022 and June 2023, with one session per month -except for two months, in which two sessions will be promoted”, adds the PS.
