The secretary general of the PS, António Costa, assured this Sunday that the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) is being implemented “on the fly” and announced that, very soon, the European Commission should release the second ‘tranche’ of funds.
At the closing of the Lisbon Urban Area Federation (FAUL) congress, in Vila Franca de Xira, António Costa recalled that “many said that it would be impossible to complete compliance” with the community funds provided for in the PT 2020, comply with the PRR and start, at the same time, with EU funds for the next decade.
“Fortunately, everyone has overcome this pessimism and now what they point to is the poor performance of the PRR. As they were wrong the first time, they are wrong the second time,” he predicted.
According to the socialist leader and prime minister, the PRR “is being carried out hand in hand and according to the schedule” agreed with the European Commission (EC).
“That is why we received the first tranche, we have already submitted to the EC the report that shows that we have already met the goals and milestones that will lead to the payment of the second tranche and I am sure that, very soon, the Commission will validate our goals and frameworks and we will pay the second stretch,” he said.
António Costa stressed that, precisely this week, the European Commission referred to the fact that “Portugal has been one of the countries with the best rate of execution of community funds and with the lowest rate of irregularities” and that the country has “all the conditions to achieve the end of 2023 and have fully complied with PT 2020”.
