Costa announces reinforcement of transfers to Higher Education and increase in scholarships

The President of the Government announced this Thursday an extraordinary reinforcement of 25 million euros for higher education institutions and a 10% increase in scholarships for students, with an additional five percentage points for displaced students.

These government measures to strengthen institutions and support Higher Education students were conveyed by António Costa at the Thalia Theater in Lisbon, at the opening of a session dedicated to World Science Day.

After the intervention of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, the executive leader promised “special attention, in this difficult stage, in which the world, Europe and Portugal are facing a serious inflationary stage.”

????????It affects the functioning of the institutions, the capacity of the families so that their children continue studying and of themselves to continue studying.???????? Therefore, with the due consent of the Minister of Finance [Fernando Medina]it can be announced that there will be an extraordinary reinforcement of Higher Education institutions in a total of 25 million euros”, he said.

Also according to the President of the Government, in addition to the 25 million euros destined to increase the capacity of higher education institutions to face the increase in energy costs, “there will also be an extraordinary increase in the increase in all scholarships in a 10% plus five points [percentuais] in granting scholarships to displaced students”.

????????And there is a 50% increase for Erasmus scholarship holders???????? We want to create better conditions so that more students can continue studying and so that Higher Education institutions can continue developing their work in training human resources and research,” he added.
