Facade of the Assembly of the Republic lights up in orange for the end of violence against women

The president of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, announced this Friday that the façade of the parliament will light up in orange for the end of violence against women, which represents the commitment of the entire Portuguese society against this scourge.

“The Assembly of the Republic, which represents all the Portuguese in their diversity, could not fail to join this International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by saying present. We will do everything in our power to end this scourge. that it is violence against women,” declared Santos Silva.

The second figure of the State spoke in a video published on his official account of the social network Twitter, in which the lighting of the facade of the Assembly of the Republic in orange is announced as a way for the Portuguese parliament to associate with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established by the United Nations.

“This is about human rights. Violence against women is absolutely unacceptable in any of its forms, physical, psychological and sexual”, defended Santos Silva.

“Violence against women is a dramatic reality in today’s world, also here in Portugal, but it is a reality that we cannot accept. Eliminating violence against women is everyone’s responsibility.public authorities but also civil society, each and every one of us,” he said.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Prime Minister, António Costa, also marked this day instituted by the United Nations.

In a message published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered that the figures for this type of crime in Portugal “now they are evident, as well as the inequality that still persists”????????

On the social network Twitter, the President of the Government, António Costa, reaffirmed the “government priority” in the fight against domestic violence, underlining the “reinforcement of funds” in the State Budget for 2023 for the creation of more structures support.

On the international day for the elimination of violence against women that was commemorated today, the head of government made another publication in which he reiterated “the call to put an end to the silence of those who suffer attacks and to end the indifference of those who detect them ”.

“And I reiterate the call to the entire community to be outraged at any type of violence,” added the prime minister.
