The former glory of FC Porto, Rabah Madjer, and coach of Algeria was sentenced this Thursday to six months in prison for false testimonies, advances AFP.
At 63, the former Algerian international saw the cases of fraud and forgery, for which he was accused and risked up to 18 months in prison, still closed. In addition to the six months of effective sentence, he was also fined 64,000 euros and sentenced to pay compensation of 320,000 euros, writes JN.
At issue is the fact that the former player owned two newspapers, Al Balagh and Al Balagh Erriadhi, from which he will continue to receive public funding, for advertising, for a year after its closure.
It was the Algerian national advertising agency, ANEP, that filed a complaint and demanded the restitution of the sums unduly received as well as compensation for interest and losses.
