The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) launched this Friday a version of the national anthem in sign language, performed by players from the men’s and women’s teams, on the occasion of the International Day of Sign Languages.

In the video published on YouTube, soccer players such as Rúben Neves, Pepe, Diogo Dalot, William Carvalho, Ricardo Horta, Nuno Mendes, Palhinha and André Silva appear, as well as female internationals, such as Andreia Jacinto, Andreia Norton, Carole Costa, Carolina Mendes, Ana Borges and Jessica Silva.

The video was recorded in June at the Cidade do Futebol, under the coordination of Ana Margarida Almeida, author of the project and responsible for translating the anthem into sign language, but it was only released this Friday, the day on which International Day is commemorated. of the woman. In addition to soccer players from the best teams in Portugal, deaf Olympic swimmers Miguel Cruz and Tiago Neves, a Portuguese Sign Language teacher, a deaf boy and a deaf supporter of the national teams also participated in the video.

According to the federation, “this is one more step for the FPF towards the inclusion and elimination of the barriers faced by fans with disabilities who watch or want to watch football matches”, with the aim of “making the show accessible football”. everyone”.
