Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi will leave Williams after the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 1 (F1) World Cup, after three years in the premier category of motorsport, the British team announced on Friday.
Williams, who has already confirmed the continuation of Thai Alexander Albon in 2023, has not revealed who will be Latifi’s successor – still without points earned this season, with six races to go – in next year’s F1 World Championship.
The 27-year-old Canadian joined the British team in 2020 but only scored seven points from 55 races, his best result being seventh at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, despite driving an uncompetitive car.
Latifi finished 21st in the 2020 World Championship, 17th the following year and, in 2022, he is 21st, immediately behind Williams’ Dutch reserve driver Nyck de Vries, who scored points in his only race at the Italian Grand Prix, finishing in ninth position.
