Russian military plane crashes into homes in a Russian town near the border. Two dead and 15 wounded

At least two people have died and 15 have been hospitalized after a Russian military plane crashed in a residential neighborhood of the city of Yeysk, a city on the shores of the Sea of ​​Azov, near Ukraine. The information was released by the Defense Ministry, cited by Russian agencies.

The Russian authorities announced that both crew escaped safely, but the plane crashed in a residential areacausing a fire when tons of fuel exploded on impact.

“The Sukhoi 34 crash site was a residential neighborhood and the jet fuel caught fire,” the ministry said.

According to the Interfax agency, the authorities reported that the accident occurred during a training flight, and the fall of the plane was caused by the ignition of one of the engines during takeoff.

Images on social media filmed by witnesses show a massive fire in an apartment building.

Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said emergency services were working to put out the fire.

Local authorities said the fire affected several of the building’s nine floors, with at least 15 apartments were affected.

The city of Yeysk is located on the Sea of ​​Azov, opposite the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, devastated by shelling and a long siege in the first months of the Russian offensive.
