The Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges fell this Saturday against the Austrian Maximilian Neuchrist in the semifinals of the Maia Open, which ends on Sunday at the Complexo Municipal de Ténis da Maia, where he was crowned runner-up in pairs with Francisco Cabral.
First seed of the ‘challenger’ Maiato, the national number two and 93 in the world could not demonstrate the theoretical favoritism on the ‘court’ and gave way to the rival, 359 in the world ranking, in three ‘sets’, by partials of 5-7, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-1).
After having reached the semifinals and final in the double session of the 2021 tournament, Nuno Borges, 25, was arrested at two hours and 49 minutes and ended up giving the title pass to the Austrian ‘qualifier’, who will continue to discuss with the French Luca van Assche (176th), responsible for the elimination of Australian Aleksandar Vukic, by 1-6, 6-2 and 6-3.
After the defeat in the singles draw, the young maiato returned to the “field” in the company of his friend Francisco Cabral (51st in the couples “ranking”) to play the couples final, but they failed to win against the British Julian Cash and Henry Patten, who were proclaimed champions, with partial scores of 6-3, 3-6 and 10-8.
