Google Blocks Trump Truth Social App Due to Content Moderation Issues

According to reports, Donald Trump’s approval of the Google app store Truth Social, which controls access to 44 percent of US smartphones, has been delayed due to “content moderation considerations.” While Google’s decision was down to balance, it resulted in negative media coverage of Trump’s platform.

In a statement from Axios, which is currently being reported by other media, Google said that due to content moderation issues, the approval of Truth Social on the Play Store has been delayed.

“On August 19, we reported several common policy violations to Truth Social when submitting their current app, and we confirmed that having active systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for running any app on Google Play.”

Devin Nunes, CEO of Truth Social, a former congressman from California, expressed disappointment at the tech giant’s indifference. “I don’t know why it’s taking so long,” Nunes said in a recent podcast interview.

Discussions about the presence of Truth Social on the Play Store received wide media coverage and were published for a while. Newspaper “New York Times published an article on the content of “QAnon” on Trump’s platform, based on data from the party organization NewsGuard.

With Google’s decision to endorse Truth Social, which hangs in the balance, it looks like the media tech giant is trying to influence its decision.

The smartphone market is a duo, with over 99% of US smartphone users using either Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android operating systems.

Truth Social was endorsed by Apple, which controls about 55 percent of the US market, but not by Google, which cut the app and former President Trump’s main social media format from the remaining 44 percent.

After reporting that violent threats on the platform are Google’s main concern, Axios falsely claims that violent messages remain on Truth Social, citing just one example out of millions of posts.

However, Truth Social, like any social media platform, has a clear policy against threats of violence and other criminal activity.

Axios’ complaint seems to be that Real Social moderators sometimes allow threats of violence or don’t address them quickly enough. But the same complaint can be made against any other social media platform, including Twitter, which has repeatedly failed to stem the spread of threats of violence on its platform, including threats against high school students, school, and Supreme Court judges.

months after capsized caviar, Some messages that sparked a flood of threats and insults to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas – in clear violation of Twitter policy – remain on the platform, as shown below.

Other criminal activities also flourished on Twitter. During the George Floyd riots, Twitter allowed thieves to identify robbery targets using the platform without doing anything or commenting, although Breitbart News identified the company with offensive tweets.

Despite this and many similar examples, Twitter, unlike Truth Social, has been approved in the Google Play store.
