At William Penn Elementary School in Utah, an awakened fourth-grade teacher taking paid leave after bragging about building her classroom for “students of color” will resume her job. The teacher apologized for the video and proudly said, “If you look around and make some of the materials I have, you’ll realize that white children are not represented there.”
“For the first time in my life, I will be teaching in a predominantly white school and I want to see how students and parents react to my classroom because it is made for non-white students,” the teacher said in a video. posted on social media.

The teacher, whose name has not been released, said he made sure “white children” were “not represented” in the course materials.
“If you look around and make some of the materials I have, you’ll notice that there are no white children represented,” he said. “The same goes for my coloring pages, I have a huge pile of coloring books for students to use, and none of them are white people with a picture of a man.”
“And the only Disney princesses I have are Mulan and Moana,” the teacher continued, adding that she “beat” them when she saw that the classroom library was “dominated by straight, cis-white males.” by buying books that depict many different people, of color or non-binary, transgender, LGBT characters.”
“So at this basic level of my classroom there isn’t much status quo,” the teacher said. “If my past experience with fancy white parents applies to this year, I feel like some parents might have something to say about it.”
While the Granite School District was investigating the matter, the teacher was suspended as a result of his statements.
After a month-long investigation, school district officials said they had no evidence to support a “violation of policy or law” regarding a teacher’s comment on a social media post, according to the ABC4 report.
However, the school district noted that they scolded the teacher for his behavior.
Granite School District officials said, “We disciplined the employee appropriately and based on the findings of the investigation.” Said.
The Principal of William Penn Elementary School also described the teacher’s comments as “very discouraging”, adding that “it is unacceptable for any employee to make their students feel unwelcome in any way, shape or form.”
“I am sincerely sorry for the disruption experienced by the school, teachers, society, family and most importantly my students,” the teacher said in a statement.
The teacher continued:
My classroom expectations are to be safe, responsible, and respectful. I developed my classroom for all students and was welcoming to all families. I ensure and will continue to ensure that every student is welcomed and represented in my classroom, and I strive to create an inclusive environment and ensure the safety and comfort of all my students. I would also like to re-emphasize the importance of parent involvement and welcome their involvement in their children’s education. I am committed to following state and territory approved standards, curriculum and materials to ensure the success of my students.
