Less Christmas lighting, closed doors and windows, and telecommuting are recommended. Measures of the Energy Saving Plan

It was approved on September 8, in the Council of Ministers. But only this Wednesday, the day after its publication in the Diário da República, will the Energy Saving Plan designed by the Government come into force, which will be mandatory for the public administration but optional for the local and private administrations.

In this sense, the Government proposes a series of measures to reduce energy consumption that focus on the areas of energy, water and mobility efficiency. The Executive explains that the measures are classified by implementation period (up to 3 months and between 3 to 12 months), including those that must be implemented immediately, that are related to behaviors and recommendations, that do not require investment. The plan is part of the response to Brussels’ challenge to member states for a 15% voluntary reduction in energy consumption, which for Portugal is 7%.
