Cybersecurity experts have revealed that some dangerous Android apps are loaded with viruses that have been downloaded more than a million times together.
These malicious apps manage to bypass detection systems and the Google Play Store.
Experts report that they found four apps that hide some of the malware known as HiddenAds.
And hackers initially use a “distraction tactic” to lull the user into a false sense of security. So you won’t notice an error right away, which makes you more likely to be suspicious of the app and delete it.
But after a few days the app started running maliciously and opening phishing sites in Chrome.
According to Malwarebytes, the malware scanning and anti-malware company that discovered the latest trick, one of which contains adult content that redirects the user to phishing pages telling the user that they have been exposed to a virus or need an update.
More alarmingly, tabs are secretly opened in the background even when your device is locked.
Malwarebytes warns: “When a user unlocks their device, Chrome opens with the latest site. A new tab often opens with a new site, and as a result, unlocking your phone after a few hours means closing multiple tabs. Users’ browser history is also long. There is a list of Bad phishing sites.
What are these malicious apps?
Four Bluetooth-related apps were found to contain HiddenAds malware. which:
– Bluetooth Auto Connect
– Bluetooth Application Sender
– Driver: Bluetooth, USB, Wi-Fi
– Mobile Transfer: smart key
And if any of these are installed on your phone, you better remove it immediately. It can also help to run any antivirus scanning software installed on your phone.
