Mazda prepares new electric MX-5 and more elegant?

In a 36-minute video, Mazda CEO Akira Marumoto lifts the veil on what the future holds for the Japanese automaker. His investment in electrified vehicles has not been significant, limiting himself to resorting to the alliance he has with Toyota to offer a hybrid model, the Mazda 2 (Toyota Yaris), in addition to proposing a very curious electric crossover (MX-30). but with very little autonomy. But everything seems to be about to change, with Marumoto revealing some news, with an emphasis on the Vision Study Model, which promises to be the future electric MX-5, or at least electrified.

In addition to reinforcing investment in trams and electrified vehicles, as a way to reduce polluting emissions, the only way to be present in markets like Europe, Mazda is also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. What seems like such a distant goal – against competition, to the extent possible.

The Mazda Vision Study Model looks bigger and has more bodywork than the MX-5, which has always opted for small dimensions to contain weight and thus be able to be fast with less powerful engines. But what stands out in this sports coupe is the purity of lines, which is not surprising, since Mazda has always designed attractive vehicles.

We will have to see how the manufacturer will combine this Vision Study Model, which has everything to be an electric sports coupe, with previous statements, in which it announced that the future MX-5 would continue to be rear-wheel drive and with the main combustion engine. Hence, the doubt remains: the successor to the famous Miata, whose forms fill the eyes of fans of the brand, will be electric or simply electrified.
