Funchal Captaincy extends strong storm surge warning until Tuesday

Bad weather in Madeira

This Monday, the Funchal port captaincy extended the notice of strong maritime unrest for the Madeira archipelago, issued on Saturday, until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The decision is based on the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) on the general weather situation (wind and sea) on the region’s coastline.

The regional maritime authority indicates that the waves will be of the order of 4.5 meters, “gradually decreasing to 1.5 to 2 meters.”

The wind, it indicates, will blow “fresh to very cool, decreasing to regular to moderate at the end of the morning,” and visibility will be “good to moderate, sometimes weak.”

“Ship owners and owners are recommended to take the necessary precautions to guarantee their safety,” recalls the captaincy.

Previously issued advisories related to very high winds and low visibility have been cancelled.
