Roads in the central massif of Serra da Estrela closed from 07:50

The roads of the central massif of Serra da Estrela have been closed to traffic since 7:50 a.m. due to snowfall, a Civil Protection source informed Lusa on Tuesday.

According to the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, the snow that fell during the night and early morning caused the closure of road sections 11 (Piornos – Torre), 12 (Torre – Torre) and 13 (Torre – Lagoa Comprida).

The same source said, at 10:45 a.m., that “there is no forecast” for the reopening of the three road sections of the central massif of Serra da Estrela that are closed to car traffic.

Since Monday, mainland Portugal has been affected by the Fien depression, responsible for worsening weather conditions in the coming days with forecasts of low temperatures, rain, strong winds and a tsunami, warnings having been issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

For this Tuesday, the IPMA forecasts the occurrence of showers, snowfall above 800/1,100 meters in the North and Center of the country and the intensification of winds, with gusts that in some regions can reach 120 kilometers per hour. .

Due to bad weather, the IPMA issued a red and orange warning for rough seas and a yellow warning for snowfall and wind.

The IPMA indicated, in a statement posted on its website, that the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will go from orange to red as of tonight due to maritime disturbances.

The districts of Faro, Setúbal and Beja are under a yellow warning due to strong waves until 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday.

Porto, Guarda, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are also under a yellow warning due to strong wind between 09:00 on Tuesday and 00:00 on Wednesday.

The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga due to snowfall until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
