Electric BMW i5 in October (with lots of horsepower)

BMW shared with its customers some news about the 5 Series, the second most popular model in the range, which the brand intends to launch on the market in October. But now the Germans took the opportunity to reveal some details and, above all, the electric i5, although covered by a cloak. As BMW advances, power will not be lacking and the same will happen with the M5 version.

The CEO of BMW, Oliver Zipse, assured that the next generation of the 5 Series will be presented in October, in the saloon version of the van, summoned by the German Touring, to be available at the beginning of 2024. Which is in line with which we anticipate here.

From A to Z: 68 new cars you can buy (or want) in 2023

Zipse went further and announced that not only will the 5 Series be new soon, but also the electric version of this model, the i5, will be in the news. For BMW, which continues to use the same platform for internal combustion engine models and battery-electric models, producing versions that swap out gasoline engines for battery-powered ones is easier, faster and cheaper. Hence, as with the i4, the i5 will also be offered in several versions, the most exciting (and powerful) being the i5 M, probably nicknamed the M60 to differentiate itself, above, from the M50 of the i4.

We will have to see what BMW will reserve for the i5 M60, taking into account that the i4 M50 already has two engines, one for each axis to ensure all-wheel drive, with a total of 544 hp. The mounting of an engine on each axis is assured, but it is always possible to add another hundred horsepower to the total power. Coming soon more news. Until then, remember the petrol M5:
