Rains cause six deaths and more than 5,000 houses flooded in Luanda in two days

The latest rains that fell on the Angolan province of Luanda caused six deaths, five injured, two missing and the flooding of more than 5,000 homes, announced this Friday Civil Protection and Firefighters.

According to the Luanda Civil Protection and Fire Department spokesman, Faustino Minguês, the deaths occurred in the municipalities of Belas (2), Talatona (2) and Viana (1). Thus, the torrential rains that have hit Luanda since last week have already caused, according to official data, 15 deaths.

Faustino Mingues said that 5,197 homes were floodedanother 27 destroyed, affecting 5,294 families, making a total of 26,120 people.

Data referring to the rains that fell on Wednesday and Thursday on the Angolan capital, Luanda, also point to the fall of 32 trees, the flooding of eight schools, three health centers and the destruction of two medium-voltage power plants.

“Toward updates will continue because up to now we are still working in the field and these numbers can change depending on the work that is still being done”, said Faustino Minguês.
