Russia is supporting its military with a new batch of “black hole” submarines

A well-informed source in the Russian military industry has announced that Russia will build a new batch of Varshavyanka submarines for its navy.

The source told the Russian TASS agency: “In 2024, the Russian Navy Shipyards will begin production of a new batch of Varshavyanka submarines for the Northern Fleet of the Russian Army. These submarines, which will be developed within the framework of the government project 636.3 , will be named after several Russian cities and the first submarine will be named after the city of Mariupol. “.

Russian Navy shipyards, which built 6 Varshavyanka-type submarines for the Russian Army’s Black Sea Fleet between 2010 and 2016, are currently working on contracts to build 6 more submarines of the same type for the Russian Pacific Fleet.

Russian Varshavyanka submarines are characterized by very low noise emissions compared to other diesel submarines, as they are covered with special materials that deceive the enemy’s tracking process, leading some to call them “the black hole submarine”. “

Each is 73 meters long and 10 meters wide, can dive to a depth of 300 meters, cruise at 20 knots and can operate independently at sea for 45 days. It is also equipped with 6 platforms for launching torpedoes. Platforms for launching missiles of 533 mm caliber and “Caliber” Long-range wings that can be used to deal with various sea and land targets.
