Four districts on orange alert due to forecasts of rain, storms and wind

Four districts of Portugal are under an orange alert this Sunday afternoon due to the forecast of showers, which could be hail, thunder and strong gusts of wind, reported the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Guarda and Vila Real are under an orange warning between 12:00 and 19:00 this Sunday, later descending to the yellow level.

The IPMA orange warning for these four districts is due to the forecast of heavy showers, sometimes hail, accompanied by strong gusts of wind and also favorable conditions for the appearance of electrical storms.

The Castelo Branco district will be under a yellow warning between 12:00 and 9:00 p.m. also due to the forecast of heavy showers, sometimes hail, strong gusts of wind, especially in mountainous areas, and favorable conditions for the occurrence of electrical storms.

According to the IPMA, the orange advisory, the second most serious on the scale, is issued in “moderate to high risk weather situations.”

The yellow notice, the third most serious on the scale, is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
