Fires: Seia invests in forest prevention against biotic and abiotic agents

The municipality of Seia, in the Guarda region, will invest 439,000 euros in forest prevention against biotic and abiotic agents in areas vulnerable to fire danger.

The Seia City Council signed this month the deadline for acceptance of a request for forest prevention against biotic and abiotic agents in territories vulnerable to fire danger, which has the support of the Rural Development Program (PDR 2020), “in the global amount of 439,508.22 euros, with 95% financing ”.

According to the autarchy chaired by Luciano Ribeiro, the project aims to “support the installation and maintenance of mosaics of fuel management plots, in forest masses, in order to reinforce the defense of the forest against damage caused by agents biotics and increase the resilience of the forest against abiotic agents”.

The application that was approved includes interventions related to the reduction of densitiescarrying out pruning and pruning, carrying out controlled burning and control of spontaneous vegetation.

The project focuses on 259.81 hectares of land of the Integrated Landscape Management Area (AIGP) of Malhão, Rio Seia, Serra da Estrela Sul and Socorro.

The aforementioned AIGP covers the territory of the municipality of Seia, in Serra da Estrela, belonging to the Parish Unions of Sameice and Santa Eulália, Tourais and Lajes, Santiago, Girabolhos, Vila Cova à Coelheira, Sandomil, Sazes da Beira, Valezim and Vídeo and head.
