The President of the Government, António Costa, highlighted this Thursday the “decisive role” of the oceans in regulating the climate and in achieving the decarbonization objectives, stressing that “preserving the oceans is guaranteeing the future”.
“On World Oceans Day, I renew our commitment to this global cause. Preserving the oceans is securing the future. They play a decisive role in regulating the climate and are essential for us to achieve the decarbonization goals, ”António Costa wrote in his account on the social network ‘Twitter’.
According to the CEO, “the oceans also contain many opportunities.”
“It is within this framework that we are committed to the production of oceanic renewable energy and that we want to involve companies. In July we will have the second edition of the Blue Economy and Investment Forum”, added the prime minister.
World Oceans Day, which is celebrated today, aims to raise awareness about the benefits of the oceans and the need to protect them and make sustainable use of their resources.
This date was established by the UN in 2008, although many countries mark the date since 1992, following the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, held in Rio de Janeiro.
