The amount of water increased in nine river basins and decreased in three

The amount of water stored increased in October in nine basins and decreased in three compared to the last day of the previous month, according to data from the National Water Resources Information System (SNIRH).

October 2023 storages by hydrographic basin are generally presented higher than October storage averages (1990/91 to 2022/23), except the Sado, Guadiana, Mira, Ribeiras do Algarve and Arade basins.

The Barlavento basin continues to be the one with the least amount of water, just 7.6%, when the average is 53.4%.

Of the 60 reservoirs monitored, 18 had water availability greater than 80% of the total volume and 17 less than 40%.

According to SNIRH data available on Friday, at the end of October Barlavento (7.6%), Arade (25.5%), Mira (31%) and Sado (36.7%) predominated.

The Ave basin had the largest volume of water, with 99.6% of its capacity, followed by the Duero (84%), Cávado (83.3%), Lima (75.5%), Tajo (73 .4%), Guadiana (67.7%), Oeste (66.9%) and Mondego (66.7%).

October 2023 storages by river basin were generally higher than October storage averages (1990/91 to 2022/23), except in the Sado, Guadiana, Mira, Ribeiras do Algarve and Arade basins.

Each hydrographic basin can correspond to more than one reservoir.
