Heavy rains cause 21 deaths in the Dominican Republic

At least 21 people died and around 13,000 people were evacuated from risk areas, as a result of the heavy rains recorded during the last two days in the Dominican Republic, the authorities announced this Sunday.

According to the country’s Emergency Operations Center, among the 21 fatalities there are three minors, and almost all Dominican provinces remained on alert this Sunday due to rainfall.

Nine of the 21 deaths occurred on Saturday night, when a large wall collapsed on vehicles in one of the main arteries of Santo Domingo, and in the south of the country, in the province of San José de Oco, a man lost his life. after being dragged. far across the waters.

Due to heavy rains, authorities suspended teaching activities in schools until Wednesday, “to guarantee the safety of children and young people.”
