Don’t rich people like trams? Rimac Refrigerator with 1914 HP is not sold

Mate Rimac, the founder and creator of Rimac, is an electric vehicle artist, a kind of Tesla, but for supercars. Its technological potential is such, according to the Germans, that the Volkswagen Group did not hesitate to offer it the Bugatti. —to create Rimac/Bugatti and electrify the Chiron’s successor—while Porsche paid him handsomely to access the Mate’s strengths and put them in the Taycan, from the 800V system to the two-speed transmission, to the energy management. All from what many consider a Croatian “staircase” builder.

Rimac finally completes the first Nevera with 1914 HP

In reality, Rimac has immense technological potential, as demonstrated by the fact that it supplies the Kers system to Formula 1 teams, the hybrid solution that makes a small 1.6 V6 engine deliver much more power than the old 3.0 V10. But the builder, who began taking his first steps in a “staircase”, also designed the Nevera, a hypercar with four electric motors (one per wheel) that add up to 1914 CV and we guarantee you a maximum speed of 412 km/h and the 0-100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds. Thanks to the 120 kWh capacity battery, the two-seater coupe is still capable of driving 550 km between recharges, all for a price of 2 million euros (before taxes).

412 kilometers per hour. Rimac is the fastest production tram in the world

After starting sales of the Nevera, a total of 150 units are expected to be delivered, a small value for this type of vehicle; Just remember that Bugatti produced 500 units of the normal Chiron, to which must be added the resulting dozens of additional models. among a multitude of special series—the Croatian brand faced an unexpected difficulty: the lack of demand. According to Mate, his Rimacs are not sold because the rich, who are willing to buy vehicles for this high price, prefer hypercars with combustion engines. (like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, which immediately sold 150 closed units for 3.5 million each, in addition to the 40 Valkyrie AMR, for the track, and the 85 Spider version models). Ultimately, Mate maintains, very wealthy customers prefer plug-in hybrids, such as the Mercedes-AMG One (all 275 units quickly disappeared), the latest Ferraris (such as the SF90 or the 296) or the Lamborghini Revuelto.

Mercedes-AMG One delivered to first customer

According to Mate Rimac, of the 150 units planned for the Nevera, which should be sold at its launch in 2022, and then manufactured in one or two years, The builder only managed to sell 50. The founder and CEO explains that “with the evolution of the market, electric cars have become conventional and customers with greater purchasing power and who traditionally buy hypercars like the Nevera (at 2 million euros per unit, before taxes) prefer to differentiate themselves.”

To reinforce its position, Mate Rimac recalls that the richest customers continue to prefer “very expensive analogue watches, instead of Smart Watches, even though those that offer far fewer features.” And Mate goes further by stating that “an Apple Watch does everything better than a luxury analog watch, but nobody pays €200,000 for an Apple Watch.”

The Aston Martin Valkyrie can swim. and very good

Although we recognize the technological potential of Rimac, it seems that the Croatian manufacturer reveals a certain lack of knowledge of the market. The problem with the Nevera is not the 1,914 HP, the maximum speed it reaches, the speed at which it exceeds 100 km/h, the lap time on the Nürburgring or the time it takes to recharge the battery. The only problem with the Nevera is the emblem it displays on the front hood.that associates you with a brand that less than 1% of the European population knows or considers premium. Surely the situation will be different when Ferrari and Lamborghini launch their trams, because although they do not come close to the acceleration capacity and maximum speed of the Rimac, the number of customers willing to pay more than 2 million should be incomparably greater.
