3.1 magnitude earthquake with epicenter 30 kilometers south of Sesimbra

An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in Portugal on Thursday, with its epicentre about 30 kilometres south of Sesimbra, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) announced.

The crash occurred at 3:26 a.m., the IPMA said in a statement.

“As of the time this statement was written, no information had been received confirming that this earthquake had been felt,” he said.

On August 26, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was recorded at 5:11 a.m. at the stations of the Continental Seismic Network, with its epicenter approximately 60 kilometers west of Sines.

The shock was felt in several areas of Portugal, most intensely in the regions of Setúbal and Lisbon.

In terms of magnitude, it was the Tenth largest earthquake since the 16th centuryaccording to IPMA.

According to the Richter scale, earthquakes are classified according to their magnitude as micro (less than 2.0), very small (2.0-2.9), small (3.0-3.9), slight (4.0-4.9), moderate (5.0-5.9), strong (6.0-6.9), large (7.0-7.9), important (8.0-8.9), exceptional (9.0-9.9) and extreme (when greater than 10).
