The Captaincy of Funchal once again extends the warning due to strong winds for Madeira

The captaincy of the port of Funchal once again extended the warning due to strong winds for the Madeira archipelago, until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, reiterating the warning to take extreme precautions at sea and in coastal areas.

The warning for strong winds was issued on Saturday and was initially in force until 6:00 a.m. this Sunday, and then extended until 6:00 a.m. on Monday.

The captain’s office indicates that, according to the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the wind will blow from the north/northeast “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong.”

The waves can reach 3.5 meters on the north coast, while in the south it should not exceed 1.5 meters.

The captaincy of the Port of Funchal calls on the maritime community and the population to exercise due caution “both when preparing to go to sea, and when they are at sea or in coastal areas.”

Strengthening mooring and close monitoring of moored and anchored boats, avoiding walks near the sea and exposed areas and not practicing recreational fishing are some of the recommendations.
