The Associated Press did exactly what the media expected at the Democratic-led Committee on January 6, reporting that Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony was true, and former White House adviser Pat Cipollone did not object.
Hutchinson made some sensational statements last month that were immediately controversial, such as the allegation that President Donald Trump tried to snatch a tire on his car, a claim the Secret Service disputes.
The Secret Service made an unusual public announcement that the committee made no attempt to contact them on January 6 to confirm Hutchinson’s account details. This pattern is repeated in Hutchinson’s other unusual statements.
For example, the committee did not ask Cipollone if he had said that Trump officials “could be charged with every conceivable crime,” as Hutchinson claims. Committee members admitted that they did not ask him to approve the quote.
When asked why the committee didn’t try to verify Hutchinson’s account—even by the sympathetic media outlet—members said—incorrectly—that they never questioned witnesses about what others said.
They also repeated the mantra that Cipollone did not contradict Hutchinson, which of course should not have asked him what he was saying. Rather than address Hutchinson’s allegations with appropriate skepticism, AP’s Lisa Mascaro followed the Democrat’s line in Monday’s report, in her testimony Tuesday:
This week’s meeting comes after Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, under oath of sworn statements about an angry Trump who deliberately sent armed supporters to the Capitol on Jan. . they threatened. He called Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump said Cassidy’s version was not correct. However, Cipollone did not rebut earlier testimony in a closed session on Friday. Raskin said the commission plans to use “a lot” of Cipollone’s phrase.
Even New York Times He noted that Cipollone had privately warned the group not to agree with Hutchinson’s version. But for the AP, this is undeniable.
