New York Times finds ‘double threat’ to democracy: Republicans and Republican-appointed judges

Newspaper “New York Times He made the headline of Saturday’s Constitution Day issue with a front-page article that spoke of the “double threat” to democracy: one from the right and not the other from the left, but rather 1) Republicans and 2) Republican-appointed judges.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Leonhardt makes no mention of the fact that two successive Democratic administrations sought to rule by executive order rather than Congress; that the Ministry of Justice and other institutions have become politicized; Democrats tried to undermine the previous administration with a false “Russian collusion” conspiracy theory; that the Democrats back restrictions on freedom of speech; or the Democrats are in trouble across the country in 2020.

Instead, it defines that the two “double threats” to democracy are only on the same side of the political spectrum:

The first threat is acute: a growing movement within the Republican Party, one of the country’s two largest parties, refuses to admit electoral defeat.

The second threat to democracy is acute but also growing: government policy-making power is increasingly being cut off from public opinion.

Several recent Supreme Court rulings—both extensive and unpopular polls—underscore this distinction. While the Democratic Party has won the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections, the Supreme Court to which the Republicans have been appointed appears poised to shape American policy for decades, if not decades. And the court is just one way in which political outcomes become increasingly dependent on the will of the people.

Leonhardt argues that sneaking around the Senate is part of the latest threat, as is the mapping of congressional districts that seem to favor Republicans. Democrats have joined Republicans in county machinations this year, including in Illinois, where the Democratic Government is serving. JB Pritzker broke his promise to use an independent county commission. Democratic cards rejected in New York and Maryland situation The judges are so clearly biased and violating the Constitution.

Similarly, Leonhardt said the Democratic Party’s view is that “lies are more easily spread through social media and a fragmented news landscape.” Despite the fact that Democrats often win the vote in presidential elections, he is concerned that “you can hardly name the era of the dominant Democratic party” today; and “The Senate has a strong Republican bias.” Second, he ignored the “advisory” deception propounded by the Democrats in “Election Lies,” and of course, Sometimes myself.

According to Leonhardt, the essence of the crisis is the absence of majority rule in the country’s constitutional structure. Supports democratic voting reforms; granting statehood to the District of Columbia (and thus the Democrats’ two nearly permanent Senate seats); limit the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court; and other Democrat-friendly proposals. The constitutional role of the system of checks and balances and the role of the Bill of Rights in containing the potential tyranny of a provisional majority is hardly discussed.
