Athletes, critics and parties: the return to ModaLx

Nuno Baltazar warmed up the catwalk on the last day of ModaLisboa with a social criticism of the Church and a parallel with the LGBTQIA+ community

Nuno Baltazar criticized the Church with his parade. HIBU and Duarte gave cycling and judo classes. Nuno Gama, Carlos Gil and, once again, HIBU, made the public applaud not only for the new collection but also for the anniversaries of their brands. The ModaLisboa catwalk was heating up, and not only with the trends for the upcoming fall/winter 2023/24. In between there was a good dose of creativity. Take a look at tutus by Dino Alves, sculptures by Valentim Quaresma and Olga Noronha, designers who moved from runway shows to performance, and crowd-drawing collections by Luís Carvalho and Gonçalo Peixoto.

This is only a summary. The 60th edition of ModaLisboa once again occupied Lisboa Social Mitra, on Rua do Açúcar, a space in the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, from March 9 to 12. The public filled the space and even the weather helped, as Eduarda Abbondanza told us. “I am very grateful that it has not rained,” she commented to the liveblog that has followed everything from side to side in recent days.

We also came across Plim, Salvador Martinha’s character who serves as a parody of the world of communication agencies, who left the first message about the scandals in the Catholic Church: “If it were a company, it would close.” But he was not the only one. On the third day, Nuno Baltazar was resurrected with a line full of references to religion and marked, in an interview with the Observer, his position: “How is it possible that there is not a revolt in the Catholic community? I, for my part, would take the posters and go to the door of the church”.
